Wellness Program
We prioritize student health and learning by fostering a school environment that promotes wellness, proper nutrition, nutrition education, and regular physical activity for all students. Building a healthy child requires the support of the entire community. In line with a 2004 law, our district established a local wellness policy applying to all schools, aiming to improve student health through physical activity and nutritious food. Our Wellness Committee, comprising various stakeholders, actively advises and assists the district in enhancing the wellness policy continually.
WellSAT Analysis
The WellSAT comparison chart reveals a significant improvement in the district's 2017 wellness policy compared to the previous 2012 policy. The Live Well San Diego Schools Team analysis demonstrates increased strength and comprehensiveness scores in all sections except Nutrition Education, which already had high scores. The most notable enhancements were observed in nutrition standards for competitive foods and implementation, evaluation, and communication. This progress positions us as a county leader in wellness and sets an inspiring example for other districts.
Local School Wellness Policy Triennial Assessment
Each district or LEA participating in the National School Lunch Program must develop a wellness policy. At least, they must assess the wellness policy every three years. This assessment determines:
- How the wellness policy compares to model wellness policies.
- Compliance with the wellness policy.
- Progress made in attaining the goals of the wellness policy.
