The Chula Vista Elementary School District understands the vital role of substitute teachers and staff in maintaining continuity and ensuring a quality educational experience for our students. All employment applications must be submitted online via EdJoin. If you have never used the EdJoin portal, you must register first. The Human Resource Department will continually review applications in the order received. If you meet all requirements for a specific position, someone will reach out to you via email.
Healthy Workplace Healthy Family Act of 2014 (AB 1522)
An employee who, on or after July 1, 2015, works for an employer in California for 30 or more days within a year from the beginning of employment is entitled to paid sick leave. Employees, including part-time and temporary employees, will earn at least one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked. Accrual begins on the first day of employment, July 1, 2015, or later. Paid Sick Leave
Please follow the below directions to receive your paid sick leave.
Substitute employees must accept their sub assignment and cancel through Aesop. Once the job(s) is canceled, click on the 'Substitute Employees' heading below to be directed to the fillable pdf form to request payment. Submit completed forms to the CVESD Substitute Desk in the Human Resources Department.
Noon Duty and Short Term at Will employees should contact their site and inform them of their absence. Click on the 'Noon Duty and Short Term at Will Employees' heading below to be directed to the fillable pdf form. Complete and submit to the school site secretary to be attached to your time card for Payroll submission.
- List all paid Sick Leave requests in hours. Minimum request must be 2.0 hours per day.
- Sign and submit form to Subdesk for review and processing.

Frontline Absence Management
The Chula Vista Elementary School District uses the Frontline Education Absence Management application to record and manage absences, and for requested positions, locate a substitute.
The Frontline Absence Management service is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be accessed via internet and phone.
How do I interact with Frontline?
You can interact with Frontline on the internet at https://www.aesoponline.com/login2.asp. You will be able to enter absences, check your absence schedule, update personal information, and exercise other features such as uploading your lesson plans for substitutes to view online.
You can also call Frontline toll free at 1-800-942-3767
Simply follow the voice menu to enter and manage absences and access other features. We recommend that you call in to check the computer recording of your name and job title. To do this, press Option 5 and follow the prompts.
Important Notes:
- Login information can only be provided by Subdesk staff or a school secretary since the information was randomly generated by the system. The log in ID is a phone number that was on file and the PIN is a 4-5 numeric value.
- When entering an absence, please wait until you receive a confirmation number before you terminate the phone call or close your internet browser window. Your transaction is not complete until you receive a confirmation number.
- When logging into the system, please click on the "Help" tab which will redirect you to the "Learning Center". Please take a few minutes to watch the videos on the "Getting Started" page to become familiar with how Frontline works. The direct links are:
