More rain and high winds are forecasted for the county starting Thursday, February 1, 2024. Forecasters predict tomorrow's storm will bring 1.5 to 2 inches of rain near the coast and across inland valleys and 2 to 6 inches in the mountains; a flood watch will be in effect across the entire county from 6 a.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday.
In preparation for the storm, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) has taken all the necessary precautions to ensure our students and staff's safety and well-being. CVESD has deployed sandbags at strategic locations to minimize the risk of flooding, performed a comprehensive debris removal to ensure proper water flow, and identified any potentially vulnerable areas. Our school sites will remain open tomorrow and Friday, but we will continue to monitor the storm closely.
The County of San Diego and the City of Chula Vista have several resources and programs to help residents prepare at home. You can prepare by:

- Register for emergency alerts by clicking here. In times of need, residents can access various resources and services, including food and shelter, by calling 2-1-1 or visiting 211 San Diego.
- Monitor weather conditions from the National Weather Service.
- Pick up sandbags at a distribution site. The City of Chula Vista is hosting a free sandbag distribution at their Public Works Facility, located at 1800 Maxwell Road, on Thursday, February 1, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You will need to bring proof of residency.
