This February, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) celebrates Black History Month by encouraging our schools and district, as a whole, to take the opportunity to dive into the rich history and heritage of the Black community. Black history is full of stories of resilience, bravery, and contributions that have helped shape our country and our present-day society. We also recognize the important foundation that black leaders and movements have provided in our constant pursuit for equity and access for all. Our hope is that by teaching the history of those who endeavored to overcome oppression, we will teach our students empathy, inspire them to pursue their dreams, and instill within them the courage to continue to work for equitable communities and a better future.
