The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is proud to recognize National School Counseling Week, a celebration in the first full week of February sponsored by the American School Counselor Association. This week highlights the notable contributions made by school counselors and their vital role in promoting students' academic, social, and emotional success.
We asked a few of our counselors about their favorite part of their job and received enthusiastic responses about their work. Counselor Jamala Simms from EastLake Elementary School shared how her favorite part of being a school counselor was learning about her student’s interests and using that knowledge to build rapport and provide emotional support.
CVESD school counselors play an essential role in student success by providing academic guidance and support, advocating for students' mental health needs, and helping students navigate the challenges they face inside and outside the classroom.
Chloe Dorworth from Harborside Elementary School shared how she values being able to support and walk alongside her students through some of the most impactful moments of their lives. Counselors not only support our students but also help our families, staff, and community to ensure that every student flourishes today and in the future.
This week, let’s celebrate all of our school counselors and tell them thank you for everything they do for our community.
