The Chula Vista Elementary School District’s (CVESD) Board of Education approved the Tentative Agreement with Chula Vista Educators (CVE) at the February 21, 2024, Board meeting. CVE represents approximately 1,789 certificated staff, including teachers, nurses, and psychologists, who agreed to a three-year contract to provide a 12% salary increase over the first two years.
The agreement also introduces an increase in COLA depending on the state’s budget and includes an increase in total contributions to healthcare to $15,500 in twelve monthly increments of $1,291.67. The agreement will be in place retroactively from July 1, 2024, and extending to June 30, 2026.
“Throughout the collective bargaining process, the district has been committed to ensuring a positive outcome for all stakeholders to ensure that we can continue to deliver on our mission of providing high-quality education to all of our students,” said Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Jason Romero. “Thank you to our bargaining team units who met throughout this process, ensuring a positive outcome for all.”
Other highlights include agreements on site-based reassignments, involuntary transfer, displacement, and evaluations. CVESD and CVE also agreed on continuing to build a quality Community Schools Program to include minimum staffing support, establishing a district-wide steering committee and a shared decision-making body, and committing to creating a racially just and restorative school climate.
