Important Information for All Tests

  • Testing Site: Chula Vista Elementary School District Office, 84 East J Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910
  • No late admittance. No exceptions.
  • Each test has limited capacity, and space is reserved for CVESD applicants only.
  • Must have valid picture I.D.
  • Testing dates and times are subject to change without notice.

Test Results and Application Process

  • Test results will be mailed to the address provided (Please allow three weeks for processing).
  • With a passing score, you can apply to any open position requiring successfully passing an applicable test.
  • You will be provided a checklist of items to submit to start the substitute hiring process.
  • Please Note: Each applicant will be allowed three attempts to pass any test per school year. The new school year begins July 1.

Substitute Application

If you are interested in applying as a substitute, please get in touch with the Human Resources Department via email at: sama[email protected] or submit an online application via EDJOIN.

Once you apply, one of our Technicians will review the application and send you an email with more information regarding the items to submit to start the Substitute hiring process.

What to Bring: Proficiency Tests and Requirements

Instructional Assistant (IA) / Student Attendant (SA) (Limited to 50 Slots)

  • Please arrive on time—no late admissions. No walk-ins are accepted. No exceptions.
  • Requirements: Picture ID, $7.00 exact change, or bring the original receipt of payment from the previous test during the current school year only.
  • Applicants with an Associate's degree or higher may request to waive the IA/SA Proficiency Examination. A copy of an official transcript or diploma must be presented to Human Resources during the application process for verification purposes. If you have a foreign degree, you must complete the Language and Written portion of the exam.

  • Click to sign up: December 19, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Clerical (Limited to 50 Slots)

Bus Driver

  • No test is required at this time.

Bus Attendant

  • The Bus Attendant test is being waived at this time.

Custodian

  • The Custodian test is being waived at this time.

Child Nutrition

  • The Child Nutrition Services test is being waived at this time.

Noon Duty

  • The Noon Duty test is being waived at this time.
