The Chula Vista Elementary School District participates in the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs. Breakfast and lunch are served every day at each of the 47 elementary school sites including 16 preschool programs. Many schools throughout the district offers a second chance breakfast for those students who did not get a breakfast prior to school starting. Please click on the school list link to contact your specific school for more information.
Child Nutrition Services feels it's important for your student to make a connection with what's on their tray and where their food comes from. That is why in 2012, we partnered with Food 4 Thought to bring the freshest seasonal produce to your school's cafeteria. Food 4 Thought is a company that brings quality produce into schools to help students eat healthy and, as a result, learn better. Through their 'Farm to School' program they are able to partner with small, family-owned California farms that share a commitment to student health and nutrition. We offer 3-5 different produce options in our Farm to School program. Please check the school menu to see which ones are available at your school this month. For more information on Food 4 Thought, please go to their website.
Child Nutrition Services follows the "Offer vs. Serve" program as stipulated by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Each site allows the student to choose 1 of 3 entrees for lunch, an option of either 1% white milk or non-fat unflavored or flavored milk, and as many fresh fruits and vegetables as they want. For breakfast, a student may choose from 1 of 3 entrees, fruit, and 1% or nonfat unflavored milk.

Nutrition Information
We strive to offer the best quality products in our cafeterias and are continually looking for new ways to bring in more appealing and nutritious foods. We are highly regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in that we are not able to serve just anything in our schools. We are required to serve a wide variety of fruits and vegetables as well as whole grain products that are lower in sodium and saturated fat. Everything we serve is a healthy counterpart to what may look like a "fast food" menu.
