Character Builders
The South Bay Family YMCA offers a state‑licensed before and after school program, Character Builders, at select school campuses. This comprehensive program serves students in TK–6th grade and runs from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on all school days, including minimum days.
Character Builders provides a safe, enriching environment for students and includes specialty snacks, intentional social‑emotional support, and a wide range of engaging activities such as morning fitness, homework support, and hands‑on STEAM and enrichment projects. The curriculum is customized to meet the developmental needs of specific age groups, ensuring activities are age‑appropriate, engaging, and supportive of both academic growth and social‑emotional development.
Program fees apply; however, the South Bay Family YMCA is committed to accessibility and offers scholarships for families who qualify and need financial assistance.

Online registration for Character Builders for the 2026-27 school year is now open. Fees are paid monthly for the month of service. Fees include all minimum days. No make-up days will be allowed due to illness, vacation, or holidays. All rates are based on the weekly rate multiplied by the number of weeks school is in session per month (see the payment schedule for monthly totals based on the CVESD calendars).
