The California Kindergarten Readiness Act established a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program for children who miss the September 1 birth date cutoff to enroll in Kindergarten. TK is a pre-Kindergarten program designed to build a bridge between early learning and Kindergarten. This program provides time for younger students to engage in early academic learning experiences designed to promote success in Kindergarten and beyond.
The Chula Vista Elementary School District offers a full-day TK program at selected sites. Students in the TK Program complete a full year in TK and then a full year in regular Kindergarten before moving on to First Grade. Registration for the current year is ongoing. Registration for the 2023-24 school year begins on February 15.
Transitional Kindergarten Eligibility Qualifications
Children must meet the program qualifications listed below:
Age
The child must turn five years old from September 2 through April 2 of the current school year.
Immunizations
The child must have the immunizations required before entering the program.
