What is the Junior Academy Program?
The Chula Vista Elementary School District has partnered with the YMCA of San Diego County to offer students in TK-6th grade a FREE Expanded Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP). The Junior Academy Program will offer a wide variety of academic and fun enrichment activities, field trips, and meals (Breakfast, Lunch, and snack).
When is the Junior Academy program offered?
The Junior Academy program will operate during CVESD scheduled breaks. For more information about Junior Academy dates, visit ELOP Junior Academy.
Does my child/children have to attend the full day?
Families are encouraged to take full advantage of the program. Please speak to a YMCA staff member if your child/children will need to leave early from the program.
Where is the Junior Academy Program located?
The Junior Academy Program will be offered at 4 preselected Chula Vista Elementary school sites. For more information about Junior Academy locations, visit ELOP Junior Academy.
Does my child/children need to be registered at one of the listed 4 school sites to attend?
No, you only need to be registered as a student in CVESD and fill out an online application.
How do I complete an interest form for my child/children for the Junior Academy Program?
Families can submit an interest form for the program once they are available. Interest forms will be emailed to all families via Peach Jar and are also available online here.
If I fill out an interest form, does that mean my child is accepted into the program?
No, all families selected into the program will receive an acceptance email on how to complete the registration process.
How are students selected for the Junior Academy Program?
Highest priority will be given to unduplicated students: Foster Youth, McKinney Vento (Homeless) students, English Language Learners, and socioeconomically disadvantaged students. After the highest priority students are registered, it will be first come, first served.
Can my child/children apply for the Junior Academy Program if they attend one of the following charter schools Arroyo Vista, CVLCC, Discovery, Feaster, or Mueller Charter?
Funding provided for the Junior Academy Program is for non-charter school students. Please contact your child's charter school for more information about their programs which are run separately.
I registered for the wrong school site can I change my selection?
Families will need to submit a NEW online application and select the NEW location of choice.
What activities will my child/children be participating in while they are attending the Junior Academy Program?
The Junior Academy Program will offer a wide variety of enrichment activities such as: cooperative structured play and physical activity, arts and crafts, academic activities that include STEM and fun and exciting field trips. Students should come in comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes.
What can my child/children bring to the program?
Students should come prepared with their belongings that will help them feel comfortable and prepared for the day. Suggested items include reusable water bottle, sunscreen, sweater, hat etc. Please keep in mind that the Chula Vista Elementary School District and the YMCA of San Diego County are not responsible for loss or stolen items.
Do I need to send my child/children with food?
The Junior Academy Program will provide access to breakfast, lunch, and a small snack FREE of charge. Students are welcome to bring additional food items from home that they can store in a lunch bag or backpack.
