Update to Board Safety Policy

CVESD Update Graphic

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is committed to fostering meaningful family engagement and encouraging volunteer participation across all school sites. At the same time, ensuring the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

At the November Board of Education meeting, the Board adopted Board Policy 3515.1 to enhance safety practices district-wide. Following feedback from families and staff, the district identified the need for additional clarity. As a result, at the December Board of Education meeting, the Board approved a revision to Board Policy 3515.1 Campus Access and Safety to better define school access procedures.

The revised policy outlines how parents and guardians may check in through the district’s visitor management system, Raptor, to accompany their child to a designated morning drop-off and escort them to their classroom. Parents and guardians must proceed directly to and from these designated areas and exit the campus by the first bell. While on campus, all visitors are expected to follow site-specific safety procedures and comply with staff directions. Parents must sign out of Raptor upon leaving campus.

This policy does not change our commitment to family engagement or your involvement at our schools. We continue to welcome families to school events and activities and value the important role our volunteers play. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that we are aware of who is on campus at all times, thereby helping us maintain a safe and secure learning environment.

To support a smooth and efficient check-in process, parents and guardians are encouraged to download the Raptor app prior to visiting their child’s school. The app allows visitors to pre-register their credentials and provides a QR code that can be scanned upon arrival, facilitating a faster screening process. The Raptor app is available for download through the Apple App Store and Google Play. For additional information about Raptor Visitor Management, please click here.
