Meet CVESD’s New Parent Ambassadors

Meet CVESD’s New Parent Ambassadors

This school year, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) introduced its first-ever Parent Ambassador Program, a districtwide initiative designed to strengthen the connection between families, schools, and the district. As part of Goal 5 in CVESD’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), the program reflects the district’s commitment to meaningful family engagement and shared decision-making.

Through a network of parent and guardian representatives, CVESD is creating opportunities for families to actively contribute to shaping priorities and initiatives at both the school and district levels. One Parent Ambassador for each school site is working in collaboration with their school principal to enhance family engagement for their school communities.

Parent Ambassadors also meet quarterly with district leaders and fellow ambassadors to share feedback, exchange ideas, participate in professional learning, and build connections across school sites. These gatherings create a space for collaboration and shared growth, strengthening the collective impact of family engagement throughout the district.

At Hazel Goes Cook Elementary, Parent Ambassador Caitlin Greeninger has worked with Principal Anthony Morales to identify a schoolwide goal: increasing family participation in events and meetings. Through intentional efforts like offering translation, providing virtual access, and creating a welcoming atmosphere, their team has grown attendance at Coffee with the Principal and PTA Meetings from fewer than 10 families last year to more than 20 just this quarter. Ms. Greeninger’s role as a longtime volunteer and PTA president complements her work as Parent Ambassador, where she helps expand opportunities for families to feel connected and involved.

“Cook may be a small school, but it is full of heart and passion,” she shares. “Being a Parent Ambassador gives me the opportunity to highlight the amazing things happening here while also helping connect families with what the district has to offer.”

CVESD looks forward to continuing its partnership with its Parent Ambassadors to strengthen connections across school communities and expand opportunities for meaningful family engagement.  To learn more about CVESD’s family engagement opportunities, click here.
