CVESD Social Workers Recognized at SDCOE School Social Work Awards

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is proud to recognize two staff members who were recently honored at the 2026 San Diego County School Social Work Awards Program. District Social Worker Sonia Godoy and Tanya Moreno, School Social Worker at Palomar Elementary, were nominated during the March 6 event hosted by the San Diego County Office of Education in recognition of National School Social Work Week.

The annual awards program celebrates school social workers across San Diego County who go above and beyond in supporting students, families, and school communities. For CVESD, they play an important part of the team that supports the whole child. Through counseling, family outreach, and coordination with community partners, they help ensure students have the support they need to feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.

Ms. Godoy has served the district for nearly 11 years and works closely with foster youth across CVESD schools. In her role, she provides case management and therapeutic services while coordinating with schools and community partners to help maintain stability and continuity in students’ education. Among the experiences she values most is organizing college visits for foster youth, which allow students from different schools to come together, explore university campuses, and begin imagining new possibilities for their futures.

Ms. Moreno, who is in her fifth year with CVESD and her second year at Palomar Elementary, supports students through counseling, classroom lessons, and social-emotional learning activities that help children develop healthy ways to manage their emotions. She works closely with teachers, administrators, and families to ensure students receive the support they need both academically and emotionally. She also creates opportunities for students to build positive habits and coping strategies through activities such as mindfulness and small group gatherings during the school day.

The district is proud to celebrate both Ms. Godoy and Ms. Moreno and the meaningful impact they continue to make in the lives of CVESD students and families.
