In order to expand environmental education for Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) students, the Port of San Diego has awarded the district a $60,000 grant over the next three years. This funding will benefit more than 7,000 students annually, ensuring equitable opportunities to participate in science experiences aligned with California’s Next Generation Science Standards.

CVESD Squishmallow Attendance Hunt

September is Attendance Awareness Month, and the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is highlighting the importance of being in school every day and on time with the Squishmallow Attendance Hunt. From September 2 through 19, Squishmallows will be hidden across schools in the district. Because their locations are a surprise, the best way for students to take part is by attending school each day.

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD), in collaboration with the Chula Vista Welfare Council, is organizing a district-wide canned food drive from October 21 through November 8. To help support needy families across Chula Vista, donation bins will be placed at participating schools and the district office located at 84 East J Street in Chula Vista. Non-perishable food items that are not in glass containers or in oversized cans will be accepted for donation.

The Chula Vista Elementary School District is hosting an Attendance Competition to promote the importance of regular school attendance. In alignment with the district’s “2 is Too Many” attendance campaign, the contest seeks to highlight the critical impact that even just two days of missed school can have on a student’s educational success. Schools, classes as well as individual students can submit an entry for a chance to have their work featured on all CVESD social media platforms.

Starting at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4th, most of San Diego County, including Chula Vista and surrounding areas, will be experiencing a heat wave that is expected to last until 8 p.m. Friday, September 6th. To ensure the well-being of our students and staff, each school has protocols in place to keep students safe during the excessive heat, including modifying and/or relocating programs and breaks that involve strenuous activities, such as athletic clubs and recess. Students will also be encouraged to stay hydrated by taking extra water fountain breaks throughout the day.
