The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is delighted to welcome students, staff, and families back to school on July 24 for the 2024-25 school year. In preparation for the start of the new school year, the district has compiled a list of important information for parents and guardians to review before school officially resumes.
All school sites will be sending out information to their specific communities regarding back-to-school activities, class information, and school supplies needed. Families should contact their school site or the district office if they require further information.
District Calendar:
As attendance is vital for the success of students, families should mark their calendars now for important 2024-25 school year dates, such as school breaks and holidays. Outside school commitments should be scheduled to occur during breaks and holidays to prevent students from missing crucial learning. Ensuring that students attend class daily is critical to their academic success. The full calendar is available to view by clicking here.
Community Expo:
The district invites families and the community to their third annual Community Expo on July 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the district office. In addition to having a fun-filled day, families will be able to learn about what the district has to offer. There will be interactive activities for students, district and community resources, and free food while supplies last.
Family Engagement:
Families are vital in shaping each child’s educational journey and their involvement greatly impacts each student’s success. There are many opportunities to get involved within the district and at the school site level. To learn more about opportunities to get involved at the district level, click here.
Communications:
Families should familiarize themselves with the district's communication channels, including the website, email newsletters (CVESD Connections), and social media platforms. CVESD communication channels will inform families about district announcements, important updates, and opportunities for engagement.
Families can opt-in to text messages from the district by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587. Also, families should make sure that email notifications are turned on to receive updates for new flyers through Peachjar and follow the district on all social media platforms - @CVESDNews.
Parent Helpline:
If parents find themselves in need of technical support for district-adopted online programs (i.e., Achieve 3000 and Microsoft Office), they are encouraged to call the parent helpline at 619-409-6638, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note that parents may need to leave a message during peak times, but a technician will get back to them as soon as they are available.
Nutrition Information:
This year, all students in the district will receive free breakfast and lunch regardless of income. The district will send LCFF forms to all school sites for parents/guardians to complete. All parents/guardians must fill out the form regardless of if their student participates in the district nutrition program as the form determines the amount of funding the district qualifies for.
Transportation:
The district can provide transportation for qualifying students residing beyond defined walking distances. For more details, including applications and schedules, please click here.
Before and After School Programs:
All school sites offer LEAD Clubs and LEAD Hub, formerly the STRETCH and DASH programs. The LEAD Program is free to transitional kindergarten through sixth grade students who meet program qualifications. For more information, click here.
Safety:
The district has established comprehensive emergency procedures for emergencies, conduct regular safety drills, and maintain open lines of communication with parents. CVESD urges parents to update their emergency contact information and opt-in to district communications to receive safety notifications. For more information about district safety measures and protocols, please click here.
COVID-19 Protocols:
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and SDCOE have updated the COVID-19 guidance. The updated guidance will allow individuals to follow a more symptom-based approach than usual for other illnesses. Students who are symptomatic and test positive should stay home when symptoms appear. They may return to school when they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications and other non-fever symptoms are mild and improving. If they test positive and are asymptomatic, they may continue to attend school. All students who test positive should wear a mask indoors through day 10 (day zero is date of symptom onset or date of positive test collection).
