The Greater San Diego Reading Association (GSDRA) annually celebrates the achievements of educators and community members who have significantly contributed to the reading and language arts field. We proudly announce that Hind Falconer and Karen Lee were among the recipients, representing the Chula Vista Elementary School District’s (CVESD) commitment to nurturing literacy skills among our students. Both recipients received the Award of Excellence, given to individuals who demonstrate excellence in teaching and promoting literacy.
Falconer and Lee are dedicated Multi-Tiered System of Supports-Reading (MTSS-R) Coaches who have been instrumental in driving positive change within our district. They have worked tirelessly with grade one and two teachers at seven schools to enhance the quality of reading instruction and provide targeted support to students in need.
We were selected to participate in a three-year study supported by the U.S. Department of Education, evaluating the effectiveness of different strategies. Falconer and Lee have been pivotal in implementing these strategies, working closely with teachers and tailoring lessons to meet student needs. Their dedication and expertise contribute to our ongoing efforts to address this critical learning area and ensure that all students have the opportunity to thrive.
As part of their involvement in the U.S. Department of Education study, Falconer and Lee have provided coaching, model teaching, and planning support to implement high-quality, explicit reading instruction. Their efforts have played a vital role in strengthening the foundation of reading skills among our students and ensuring equitable access to learning opportunities.
Congratulations to Falconer and Lee on this well-deserved recognition! Your dedication and passion significantly impact our students’ lives, and we are proud to have you as part of our educational community.
