On April 10, 2025, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) partnered with the San Diego Unified School District to host its 2nd Annual Binational Symposium. Held at the district’s newest campus, Sonia Sotomayor Elementary, the event brought together educational leaders, elected officials, and regional stakeholders from both sides of the border to bring awareness on migrant education, binational students, and international teacher exchange programs.
Throughout the Symposium, attendees participated in workshops that explored best practices for supporting multilingual learners, strategies to enhance cultural diversity, and innovative approaches to expanding international teacher exchanges. Guided tours of Sotomayor Elementary showcased the district’s cutting-edge dual language programs and state-of-the-art learning environments, further highlighting CVESD’s dedication to cultural inclusivity.
Dr. Reyes reflected on the impact of the 2nd Annual Symposium and its importance in raising awareness of the binational partnerships and programs that support students. “As a district near the U.S.–Mexico border, CVESD understands the importance of cultural connection in the classroom. Strengthening these international partnerships allows us to share instructional practices and pedagogies to serve our students best and help them be successful in discovering their own potential."
The 2nd Annual Binational Symposium emphasized CVESD’s ongoing dedication to cultivating a globally minded educational community through collaborative discussions, engaging workshops, and a focus on building meaningful cross-border relationships. By promoting multilingualism and international cooperation, the district continues to prepare students to excel in an increasingly interconnected world.
