For the sixth consecutive year, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 24th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, CVESD answered detailed questions about funding, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
Our district has an award-winning Visual and Performing Arts Program (VAPA) where students regularly access the arts during their school day. Our VAPA program’s mission is to provide inclusive, purposeful, and standards-based arts instruction to every student, fostering their creativity, self-confidence, and critical thinking skills through the arts. Our program has focused on building a strong arts community where teachers can collaborate and provide community-building efforts through our performances and showcases.
The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported partly by the National Association of Music Merchants, its 15,000 member companies, and individual professionals. The foundation advances active participation in music-making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving, and public service programs.
