The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) proudly recognizes its exceptional educators, staff, and team members honored at the 2024 Academia Awards Gala, hosted by BLU Lapis Media. The event, held on December 8, 2024, celebrated educational champions making a lasting impact in their school communities.
Assistant Superintendent of the Year: Rochelle Carroll, Assistant Superintendent of CVESD, was recognized for her visionary leadership and commitment to student success. Her focus on fostering inclusive learning environments has been instrumental in advancing excellence across the district.
Dual Immersion Teacher of the Year: Dr. Veronica Carranza from Los Altos Elementary seamlessly integrates language and culture into her teaching, nurturing a love of learning and cultural awareness in her students. Her compassionate approach ensures all students feel valued and supported.
Bus Driver of the Year: Eugene Gutierrez’s calm presence and dedication to student safety make him a valued part of CVESD’s Transportation Department. Known for his calm, positive demeanor, Mr. Gutierrez ensures student safety and sets a welcoming tone for each day’s journey to and from school.
Custodian of the Year: Pedro Ibarra from Myrtle S. Finney Elementary is known for his reliability, kindness, and ability to create a safe, clean, and welcoming space. As a trusted presence at school, he supports students and staff with care and consistency.
School Secretary of the Year: Jeanette Lozada at Veterans Elementary is the heart of the school’s front office, where her professionalism and warmth set the tone for every student, family, and visitor. Her organizational skills and thoughtful support make her an essential part of the school community.
Teacher of the Year: Dan Ly from Wolf Canyon Elementary inspires students as a sixth-grade teacher. By encouraging critical thinking, collaboration, and independence, he prepares students for a successful transition to middle school and beyond.
Child Nutrition Services Team of the Year: Teresa Chavira, Cristina Lago, Maria Huerta, Maria Marceleno, and Adela Ramirez from J. Calvin Lauderbach Elementary go beyond serving meals. Their welcoming cafeteria environment ensures students feel cared for and respected every day, creating a positive and welcoming space for all.
