Francisco Tamayo was elected to the Board of Education in November 2014, November 2018, November 2022, and again in November 2024. His current term expires in December 2028.

The son of Mexican immigrants, Mr. Tamayo came to Chula Vista at the age of 12 and is a proud naturalized U.S. citizen. He is the parent of children who have attended Chula Vista Elementary School District schools, giving him a personal and enduring connection to the families and communities he serves.

Mr. Tamayo brings over 25 years of experience in education technology, with a concentration in providing the technology, support, and training needed for students, teachers, and classified staff. He currently serves as Director of IT & Cybersecurity at Calbright College, California's fully online community college. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Colorado State University and a Master's degree from Pittsburgh State University.

During his tenure on the Board, Mr. Tamayo has been a steadfast student advocate and a voice for working families. He has led multiple contract negotiations with Chula Vista Educators (CVE), developing innovative compensation solutions to attract and retain exceptional teachers. He has also spearheaded the implementation of Community Schools and the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), with a particular emphasis on achieving grade-level reading proficiency by third grade.

Prior to his board service, Mr. Tamayo served as President of California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter 471, representing classified employees, championing fair wages, and working conditions for school support staff.

Mr. Tamayo is deeply rooted in the South Bay community, having served as a member in multiple non-profit organizations and as a volunteer across a wide range of community events and initiatives spanning more than 25 years.
