California State Content Standards
At the Chula Vista Elementary School District, we are committed to providing a high-quality education that equips our students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in an ever-changing world. As part of this commitment, we follow the California State Content Standards for Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, English Language Development, History-Social Science, Physical Education and Arts Education to guide our curriculum and instruction. In addition, we participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and the California Science Test (CAST) to assess our students' progress and ensure they are on track to reach their academic goals.
California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP):
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress is a statewide assessment program designed to measure students' academic progress in English language arts/literacy, mathematics, and other subjects. The assessments are administered to students in grades 3 through 8 and grade 11. CAASPP provides valuable information about students' strengths and areas for growth, allowing educators and parents to make informed decisions about instructional strategies and support. It is important to note that CAASPP is not used as the sole determinant of a student's academic ability but rather as one of several tools to gauge their progress.
California Science Test (CAST)
The California Science Test is a part of the CAASPP system and is aligned with the California Next Generation Science Standards. CAST assesses students' knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and practices, encouraging them to think critically and apply scientific reasoning. The test is administered to students in grades 5, 8, and once in high school. CAST results provide insights into students' scientific proficiency and assist educators in tailoring their instruction to meet individual learning needs.
