Classified Testing Information

Important Information for All Tests

  • Testing Site: Chula Vista Elementary School District Office, 84 East J Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910
  • No late admittance. No exceptions.
  • Each test has limited capacity, and space is reserved for CVESD applicants only.
  • Must have valid picture I.D.
  • Testing dates and times are subject to change without notice.


Application Process

  • Test scores will no longer be shared. If you are testing for a pending application, please confirm your status (pass or retake) with the HR Technician assisting you.
  • With a passing score, you may apply to any open position that requires successfully passing the applicable test.
  • You will receive a checklist of required items to begin the substitute hiring process.
  • Please Note: Each applicant is allowed TWO (2) attempts to pass any test per school year. The new school year begins July 1.

Substitute Application

If you are interested in applying as a substitute, please get in touch with the Human Resources Department via email at: samantha.alvarez@cvesd.org or submit an online application via EDJOIN.

Once you apply, one of our Technicians will review the application and send you an email with more information regarding the items to submit to start the Substitute hiring process.

What to Bring: Proficiency Tests and Requirements

Instructional Assistant (IA) / Student Attendant (SA)

  • Please arrive on time—no late admissions. No walk-ins are accepted. No exceptions.
  • Please bring a valid photo ID.
  • Applicants with an Associate's degree or higher may request to waive the IA/SA Proficiency Examination. A copy of an official transcript or diploma must be presented to Human Resources during the application process for verification purposes. If you have a foreign degree, you must complete the Language and Written portion of the exam.

Clerical (Limited to 50 Slots)

  • Please arrive on time—no late admissions. No walk-ins are accepted. No exceptions.
  • Please bring a valid photo ID.
  • Applicants with an Associate's degree or higher may request to waive the Clerical Proficiency Examination. A copy of the official transcript or diploma must be presented to Human Resources during the application process for verification purposes. If you have a foreign degree, you must complete the written portion of the exam.

  • June 18, 2026 from 2 - 4 p.m.
  • June 20, 2026 from 2 - 4:30 p.m.
  • June 24, 2026 from 2 - 4 p.m.
  • July 10, 2026 from 2 - 4:30 p.m.
  • July 16, 2026 from 2 - 4:30 p.m.
  • July 24, 2026 from 2 - 4:30 p.m.
  • July 31, 2026 from 2 - 4:30 p.m.

Bus Driver

  • No test is required at this time.

Bus Attendant

  • The Bus Attendant test is being waived at this time.
