Red Ribbon Week, observed annually, is the nation’s most extensive campaign promoting a drug-free and tobacco-free lifestyle. Established in 1985, it honors the legacy of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who lost his life while working to combat drug trafficking. His legacy inspires millions, including the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD), which honored him by naming its 45th school Enrique S. Camarena Elementary in 2012.
This year, the district joins the Red Ribbon Campaign from October 23 to October 31, 2024, with the theme, “Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free.” The CVESD Board of Education has adopted a resolution endorsing the 2024 campaign, reinforcing its commitment to promoting drug-free choices among students, families, and staff. As part of the district-wide observance, red ribbons will be distributed, and schools will host special activities to display a unified stance against drugs.
Families are encouraged to join the conversation and spread awareness by sharing their child’s school activities on social media using the hashtag #CVESDRedRibbon2024. Together, CVESD is taking a stand for a healthier, safer community.
