As we celebrate National School Psychologist Week from November 6 to November 10, 2023, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) recognizes our school psychologists for their hard work and dedication to supporting students' academic and social-emotional well-being.

To celebrate, we are recognizing some of our amazing school psychologists for all they do in the district and community. School psychologists play an essential role in student success by working collaboratively with staff and parents to identify and address academic, social, and emotional needs.

Erica Brockman, school psychologist at Juarez-Lincoln Elementary School, shares, "Evaluating students' cognitive abilities is extremely important and interesting to me." "Ultimately, the team and I can develop plans that support their unique needs. Parents' joy and relief that their child is seen, understood, and cared for is also a rewarding and highly motivating aspect of my role at the school."

School Psychologist at Parkview Elementary School, Rachel McInnes, shares, “My favorite part of being a psychologist is making connections with students in a meaningful way. I love being able to take the interests of my students and find creative ways to teach important social-emotional skills at school.”

Providing counseling, guidance, and support are ways school psychologists help students navigate school life and develop essential skills for success. Building relationships with students is also an important role they play daily.

School Psychologist at Greg Rogers Elementary School, Kristalyn Gonzalez, shares, "I continue to passionately work as a change agent and advocate for educational equity and positive school outcomes. I especially love surprising students with facts they assume I would not know. This is how I get my credibility and form relationships that allow safe spaces for my students."

Angela Cerda at Loma Verde Elementary School enthused, “My favorite part of being a school psychologist is being part of the community here.” "I love that students know who I am and want to talk or interact with me. For example, I have a group of fifth-grade students who like to play Uno in my office during lunch. They know me as a trusted adult they can always talk to if needed."

The Chula Vista Elementary School District encourages everyone to use this month to honor our school psychologists throughout the district.
