Mueller Charter School is named the first Leader In Me Lighthouse School in the City of Chula Vista. The Lighthouse School Designation is earned by schools that demonstrate ongoing learning and development for staff as leaders while championing leadership for the school.
“I am thrilled to be recognized for our leadership work through the Leader in Me program,” said Principal Melinda Jones. “As the first school in Chula Vista to be selected as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, I am honored for our site to serve as an exemplar to our community.”
To be designated as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, schools use a Lighthouse Rubric to measure outcomes in three areas: teaching principles, creating a leadership culture, and aligning academic systems. Schools also measure their success as it relates to their unique school. Leader In Me promotes achievement and develops well-rounded learners and life-ready leaders. The program includes training for teachers, staff, and families to strengthen student academic outcomes and social-emotional growth.
Mueller Charter will maintain its Lighthouse Certification for two years and continue to foster its growth and proficiency in exemplifying a leadership culture and principles. At the end of the two years, the school will recertify its Lighthouse status through a virtual self-assessment, describing and celebrating its growth and accomplishments since its original Lighthouse designation.
