To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving nearly 30 million children daily, the Chula Vista Elementary School District will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 10-14, 2022. The fun and creative campaign theme, “Peace, Love & School Lunch,” highlights the importance of healthy school lunches to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.
Child Nutrition Services knows the importance of students making a connection between what’s on their trays and where their food comes from. That is why in 2012, we partnered with Food 4 Thought to bring the freshest seasonal produce to each school site cafeteria.
Food 4 Thought is a company that brings quality produce into schools to help students eat healthily and, as a result, learn better. Through their 'Farm to School' program, they can partner with small, family-owned California farms that share a commitment to student health and nutrition. We offer 3-5 different produce options in our Farm to School program.
CVESD’s Child Nutrition Services follows the "Offer vs. Serve" program stipulated by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Each site allows the student to choose 1 of 3 entrees for lunch, an option of either 1% white milk or non-fat unflavored or flavored milk, and as many fresh fruits and vegetables as they want. A student may choose from 1 of 4 entrees, fruit, and 1% nonfat unflavored milk for breakfast.
The federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for 75 years. Students can enjoy the convenience of healthy school lunches for free this year, regardless of income. Please check your school site menu to see what is being served this month at your school.
