Dr. Eduardo Reyes announces Dr. Shawna Codrington as the first principal of Fahari L. Jeffers Elementary School

Under bright blue skies spotlighting the ongoing work of an active construction crew Chula Vista Elementary School District Superintendent Dr. Eduardo Reyes announced Dr. Shawna Codrington as the first principal of Fahari L. Jeffers Elementary School.
Set to open in July 2022, the District’s newest school is named after the former civil rights and labor leader. In attendance for the announcement were members of the Board of Education, District leaders, and community members, including the late Ms. Jeffers’ husband, Ken Seaton-Msemaji, along with her daughter and granddaughter.
In announcing the selection of Dr. Codrington as the new school’s site leader, Superintendent Reyes mentioned Ms. Jeffers’ work with her husband in founding the United Domestic Workers organization. Both leaders, he said, make it possible for individuals to understand the potential impact they can have on other people’s lives.
“This school is named for an amazing leader in Fahari Jeffers,” Superintendent Reyes said. “She had an impact on literally thousands of lives. Within these walls, we will continue this work. Dr. Codrington has a genuine love for what she does, which is educating students. Together, we will teach our students the importance of helping others.”
In accepting her new role, Dr. Codrington, the former principal at CVESD’s Parkview Elementary School, highlighted the legacy of Ms. Jeffers and spoke to her focus as the school’s principal.
“My goal is to ensure that all children enter and leave this building feeling magnificent in every way,” she said. “This school will live up to its name. We will foster a learning environment where every child feels valued and welcomed.”
Registration for Fahari L. Jeffers Elementary School will take place online via the District’s online enrollment portal at www.cvesd.org.
