Be Heart Smart, Go Red for Women!

Be Heart Smart, Go Red for Women on Feb. 5!

Wear Red on February 5 to support women's health and heart month.

The Chula Vista Elementary School District will “Go Red!” on Friday, February 5 to honor heart month and women’s health. The observance coincides with National Wear Red Day, which is among the highlights of the American Heart Association’s "Go Red for Women" initiative.

Coast to coast, landmarks, news anchors and neighborhoods will go red to raise awareness and support for the fight against heart disease.

“We’re asking everyone to join us by wearing red whether at home, the office or in the community,” said Superintendent Francisco Escobedo, Ed.D. “In most cases, heart disease is preventable when people adopt a healthy lifestyle. Our work as a District, in our schools, has targeted improving the wellness of students and their families. This work aligns with the mission of the American Heart Association. With the coronavirus, and its impacts on the heart and vascular system, our work is now even more important.”

The American Heart Association’s “Heart to Heart: Why Losing One Woman Is Too Many” campaign raises awareness about how 1 in 3 women are diagnosed with heart disease annually. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the No. 1 killer of women, claiming the lives of one in three women.

Did you know...?

  • CVD kills one woman about every 80 seconds.
  • CVD is the leading cause of all maternal death.
  • About four million stroke survivors alive today are women.
  • More younger women than men are having heart attacks.

To combat these sobering statistics, CVESD’s annual fundraising campaign with the American Heart Association will look a little different —because of the pandemic. This year’s giving to AHA is through an online platform. Donating to this cause is arguably easier than ever:
