Great Programs for Success!

There are many reasons to enroll in our programs. They foster your child's education as well as social skills. We strive to incorporate programs that will assist your child's positive growth, both now and for their future.

  Academic Opportunities

GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) - The District is committed to enhancing the intellectual development of our students by providing opportunities for increased student learning. In addition to extension opportunities within the general education classroom, GATE students as Loma Verde participate in dedicated extra curricular lessons and activities on an almost weekly basis.  Click here to learn more about our District's GATE structure.

  After School Programs

STRETCH

The South Bay YMCA and Loma Verde Elementary School are partnered together to have a Safe time for Recreation, Enrichment and Tutoring for our children.  This free program provides structured after school activities, including sports clinics, arts and crafts, cooperative games, and traditional playground games for Kinder-6th grade students.  Our goal for this year will be the enrichment of our students academic needs in Language Arts with the combined use of curriculum standards.

STRETCH is an extended school day program run on all five school days.  Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the program is from school dismissal until 6:00 pm.  On Fridays, and our minimum days the program will still be until 6:00 pm.  Regular Attendance is REQUIRED.  A waiting list will be maintained.  Children will be signed in and signed out by an authorized person.  Registration for STRETCH must be submitted by parents.  This is  NOT a daycare and children MUST be picked up on time.

STRETCH staff will provide up to 90 participants at our school with literacy and enrichment classes, homework assistance, and recreational activities.  The Goal of STRETCH is to create a dynamic, safe and stimulating after school environment that gives children the boost they need to succeed academically and socially.

HEARTLIGHT

HEARTLIGHT, founded in 1986, by Mari Nichols, M.A. is a non-competitive fitness activity where the emphasis is on individual achievement and improvement.  Heartlight appeals to children of every level of fitness and athletic ability. Children develop a positive attitude toward exercise and learn that exercise can be FUN! Girls and boys in Heartlight Aerobics learn the latest jazz, hip hop, and aerobic dance steps each session as they dance to choreographed routines to fun music!  Students put on a performance each session with hundreds of other Hearlight students!  Heartlight is held after school in over 100 elementary schools in 14 cities across the nation.

HEARTLIGHT IS HELD AT LOMA VERDE ON FRIDAYS at 1 pm.  Students much be registered by their parents and it is an 8 week program.

MATH 24 CLUB 2010 2011

  • Students strengthen their math skills
  • Learn to do math mentally
  • Play on-line, compete with other schools
  • Receive recognition for improved achievements
Mr. Hemmingway has generously donated licenses and will be teaching/running the Math 24 Club every Thursday after school, from 2:30 to 3:45 pm.  Students will receive a snack first and then go into the computer lab to work on-line with the educational website "First in Math - 24 Game".  Our school has chosen this educational website because it is a great way for students to gain math skills - and HAVE FUN!  Students proceed at their own pace - mastering facts and increasing problem-solving, computation, critical-thinking and pattern-recognitions skills - as they advance through the levels of the program. Studies show that children who play the 24 game on a regular basis experience significant improvement in both their skill level and their attitude about math!  Our students are able to play at school and at home, on any computer with internet access.  We hope you will encourage your child to log on to firstinmath.com as often as possible.  Go online together and discover a great learning experience.

Students must have their parents register them for this class and have their teacher approval.  There is a limited number of licenses, so it does fill up fast.

  Breakfast & Lunch Programs

Lunch Program - The Chula Vista Elementary School District takes part in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program. Meals are served every school day.
