Otay School has a total enrollment of 593 students.  Our school community is comprised of 85 percent Latino students, 8 percent Anglo students, 4 percent African American students, 1 percent Asian students, and 2 percent other students.  In addition, 65% of our students are English Language Learners and 85% of our students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
 
Otay School serves students kindergarten through grade six.  There is a computer lab that is available for classes to use on a regular basis.  There are twenty-seven classroom teachers, a reading coach, a math coach, a speech therapist, a resource specialist, a psychologist for 2.5 days, a counselor for four days, three part time program support teachers, a library clerk, and a number of classified staff.
 
Students attend school for 180 days per school year.  Average instructional minutes per day are 310 minutes for kindergarten, 310 minutes for grades 1-3, and 320 minutes for grades 4-6.  There are 50 minimum days per school year, which are used by teachers for planning and program articulation.  Otay uses site-based decision-making to guide decisions affecting student achievement.
