After school student activities include DASH, YMCA, Scouts, Jr. Jazzercise, Karate, Step Aerobics, Spanish Class, Mad Science, and "Music After School".
DASH
Dynamic After School Hours is a program conducted by the City of Chula Vista. This free program provides structured after school activities for first through sixth grade children including sports clinics, arts and crafts, cooperative games, weekly challenges, and traditional playground games. All activities are supervised by trained DASH coordinators. The DASH Program operates Monday through Friday when school is in session. The program runs from 2:30-4:30 p.m. on regular dismissal days, and from 1-4 p.m. on minimum days. The DASH Program does not operate when school is closed, during school intercession, vacations and/or holidays. Programs will operate rain or shine. YMCA
South Bay Family YMCA child care family centers provide school age licensed care on site at Olympic View. Kindergartners learn the importance of making choices, sharing, taking turns and working in a group while they play games and create. School-aged kids join in homework time, outdoor recreation as well as arts and crafts. Scouts
There are some Cub Scout, Brownie Scout, and Girl Scout groups that meet on campus during the school year. The number of groups meeting, and the times and days of the meetings varies. For more information, contact the school office at 619-656-2030.
Jr. Jazzercise
Jr. Jazzercise is a fitness and fun program designed especially for children in grades 1-6. It is held in the Olympic View auditorium for one hour each Friday immediately after school. Kids will move to their favorite songs, doing Jazzercise routines; improve coordination, balance, posture, confidence and endurance; learn about nutrition and physiology in an easy-to-understand format; and learn that getting fit is important...but it can be fun! Karate
Karate is an after school recreation class run by the city of Chula Vista Recreation Department utilizing instructors from local martial arts studios. The class is held on Thursday after school in the Olympic View auditorium. For more information on specific program dates and fees, contact the Recreation Department at 619-691-5276.
Step Aerobics
Step Aerobics is a program taught by Olympic View teacher Kathy Miller on Tuesday after school in the Olympic View auditorium. It is for sixth grade girls only and space is limited to 18 participants. Information about this program is distributed at the beginning of each school year.
Spanish Class
Spanish language classes for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students are offered each Thursday for one hour after school. Both monolingual and bilingual students are welcomed, and the class is open to all students in grades K-6. Classes are taught exclusively in Spanish by college-degreed and graduate school level native Spanish speakers. Mad Science
Mad Science of San Diego offers themed science programs after school on Mondays for one hour. Instructors present different scientific concepts in a fun, upbeat atmosphere, and include plenty of hands-on learning. Programs are usually five weeks long, and are scheduled at various intervals throughout the school year. "Music After School"
This program offers classes in Piano/Keyboard, Soprano Recorder, Orff Ensemble, Flute Skills, Beginning Band, and Flute Choir. It is taught by Olympic View teacher Ondrya Leavitt after school.
