Researchers from the Learning Policy Institute released a new report entitled, “California's Positive Outliers: Districts Beating the Odds.” The report identifies CVESD among “Positive Outliers” because its students are beating the odds despite socioeconomic conditions in their communities.

The study looked at 435 districts with at least 200 African-American or Hispanic students and 200 white students and compared the actual scores of the student groups with their predicted scores, based on a formula that includes districts’ median family income, poverty rate and parents’ education levels.

CVESD was the only elementary district among the eight in San Diego County designated as 'positive outliers' by the Learning Policy Institute, whose president/CEO, Linda Darling-Hammond, also heads the state Board of Education.
