Student Programs - GATE
Student Programs include Gifted and Talented Education (GATE).

The District is committed to enhancing the intellectual development of our gifted and talented students by providing opportunities for increased student learning.

Identification Process
In the spring of each year, all third grade students and new fourth through sixth grade students are tested for possible qualifications for GATE.

The process is initiated with the administration of the Raven's Progressive Matrices.  The Raven's is a group test administered by a school psychologist.  In conjunction with this assessment, a student's current standardized testing scores are considered.
After testing is completed, current assessment scores, teacher recommendation, and socioeconomic variables are considered by the School Study Team to determine eligibility.

Parents are notified through the school site whether or not their child qualifies for GATE identification.

Meeting the Needs of GATE Students
There are different ways to meet the needs of GATE students, such as:

Differentiation - Refers to challenging the students to excel in their areas of expertise.

Flex Grouping - Grouping students on a temporary basis to allow for specific skills to be addressed.

GATE Plan
The District's GATE Plan, which provides program guidelines, was approved by the Board of Education on May 18, 2004 and is still in effect.  Below is a link to the Plan.
