Students in the Chula Vista Elementary School District are evaluated both formatively and summatively using multiple criteria:
Required State Testing
1. Students in Grades 2-8 are required to take the California Standards Test (CST), California Modified Assessment (CMA), or California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA). These tests assess English-language arts, mathematics, grades four and seven writing, grades five and eight science, and grade eight history-social science.

2. Additionally, English language learners in Grades 2-8 who meet specific criteria are also required to take the Standards-based Test in Spanish (STS). This test assesses Spanish-language arts and mathematics.

3. English language learners in Grades K-8 are required to take the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). This test assesses listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.

District Testing
1. Students in Grades K-6 take a district Local Measures assessment in either English or Spanish. This test assesses reading, writing, and mathematics.
2. English language learners in Grade K-6 are assessed three times per year with the LAS Links Benchmark Assessment to help monitor progress on English language development.
3. In addition, District sites use the following types of assessments throughout the year to give a fuller picture of student performance:
