The Chula Vista Elementary School District takes part in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs. Meals are served every school day. Students may buy lunch for $1.50 and breakfast for $1.00. Eligible students may receive meals free or for a reduced price of $.40 for lunch and $.30 for breakfast.
Child Nutrition Services follows the "Offer vs. Serve" program as stipulated by the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program. Breakfast and Lunch is served at all sites. Students are offered a choice of six entrée choices at lunch and five entrée choices at breakfast. Each site has a complete salad bar as well as a sweeter side (apple juice, fresh fruit or cupped fruit) and their choice of low fat milk or non-fat chocolate milk.
Nutritional Information
Child Nutrition Services complies with the U.S. Federal and State Dietary Guidelines. Child Nutrition Services follows Nutrition Standard Menu Planning, called NuMenus. A computer program authorized by the State, called Nutri Kids analyzes the menus. All meals over the course of a week must meet the guidelines of no more than 30% calories from fat, less than 10% calories from saturated fat and moderate levels of sodium and cholesterol. Child Nutrition Services encourages parents to eat lunch or breakfast with their children at least once during the school year.
Who is Eligible for Free or Reduced Meals
If you receive food stamps, California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWorks), or benefits from the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), your child may receive free meals. However, please fill out an application.
To be considered for free or reduced price meals for your child(ren), complete an application. Applications are available at your school site or the Child Nutrition Office, located at 84 East J Street. Eligibility is based on the household income and number of people living in the home.
