PARENTS’ RESPONSIBILITIES
- Bring your child to school on time every day. Avoid unnecessary absences; do not remove your child from school during school hours, unless for emergencies.
- Follow school/District rules for proper attire & hygiene; your child must be clean (showered, teeth brushed and clean clothes).
- Give your child breakfast at home, unless he/she participates in the schools’ breakfast program.
- Bring complete homework to school, and make sure your child has a quiet place to do homework.
- Pick your child up on time at the end of the school day.
- When you visit your child’s school, please register at the office. This is a school regulation.
- Follow school disciplinary rules.
- Collaborate with the teacher to set educational goals for your child.
- Ask the teacher how your child is doing in the classroom, and what you can do at home to help him/her.
- Try to attend teacher/parent conferences and school activities.
- Read to your child or have somebody read to him/her for at least 20 minutes every day. Do not allow him/her to watch TV or play with videogames for more than 45 minutes per day (maximum 1hr.)
- Visit and check out books for your child at your local libraries.
- Promote and keep your native language, and help your child become biliterate.
- Make sure your child is resting enough! A child needs to sleep 9-10 hours per day.
- Make sure your child receives regular health services, as well as an adequate and healthy diet.
- Participate with school staff and other families in decision-making processes that will benefit the students.
- Offer your services and participate in your child’s classroom and school activities.
