BEHAVIORAL GUIDELINES
The students and staff at Allen Elementary believe that a safe and positive school environment is important to both a child’s learning in the classroom and to his or her growth as a citizen. In an effort to provide such an environment for our students an established set of behavioral guidelines is beneficial.
- Each person has the right to use and own property.
- Taking other people’s property, or causing damage to other people’s property is not permitted.
- Each person has the right to be different.
The students and staff will respect the uniqueness of each individual.
- Each person has the right to an orderly environment.
Everyone is expected to use good manners and follow rules in the classroom, the lunch area, and around the campus.
- Each person has the right to be treated with courtesy.
Respect, courtesy and good manners need to be shown toward other people at all times. Obscene language and abusive gestures are not permitted.
- Each person has the right to be safe and healthy.
- Hitting, kicking, punching, and other forms of physical abuse towards others is not permitted.
Unacceptable Behavior Guidelines
There may be instances in which some students have difficulty following the behavioral standards. In these cases, the following procedures will be followed:
STEP 1: The student will be counseled by the teacher.
STEP 2: If the problem continues, the teacher will contact and work with the parent to resolve the problem. If possible, the contact will be in the form of a conference.
STEP 3: Should the above action fail to solve the problem, the Principal will become involved. The Principal will do one or more of the following:
A. Counsel with the student
B. Notify the parents
C. Discipline or suspend the student
IF A STUDENT’S BEHAVIOR IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE, THE PROCESS WILL GO IMMEDIATELY TO STEP 3.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
Studies show that there is a direct correlation between school attendance and student achievement. Therefore, it is expected that parents will reinforce the importance of good school attendance and that students will attend school every day except in certain unavoidable circumstances such as illness or death in the family (see District “Annual Notification to Parents – Attendance” document).
Please plan medical appointments during school vacations or after school when possible. If your child will be absent, it is important that you call the school office that day. If you failed to call the office, please send a note with your child on the day he/she returns to school. This note should include the date of absence and reason.
We encourage you to send your child for at least part of the day when you find it necessary to keep your child out of school for reasons other than illness. It is important that your child not be counted absent and not miss out on school assignments. If for some unavoidable reason your child will be absent for a week or more, please see your child’s teacher who will arrange for an Independent Study Contract.
It is extremely important that students attend school on time. If your child is tardy, he/she must report to the school health office for a tardy slip.
Students will be recognized for perfect attendance on a trimester and annual basis. Perfect attendance is defined as no absences or tardies of any kind.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHEN STUDENTS ARE IN SCHOOL THEY ARE GAINING IMPORTANT SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE. DON’T MISS OUT ON A MINUTE!!
