District Assessments

Students in Grades K - 8 take a district Local Measures assessment in either English or Spanish in the Spring. This test assesses reading, writing, and mathematics.  The Local Measures assessment is aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

English Language Learners in Grades K - 6 who have scored a 1-3 on the CELDT are assessed two times per year with the LAS Links Benchmark Assessment to help monitor progress in English language development.

In addition, school sites use the following types of assessment throughout the year to give a more complete picture of student performance:
  • Topic Assessments
  • Benchmark Assessments
  • Performance Assessments
  • Student Projects
  • Portfolios
  • Student Observation / Communication

State Assessments

The curriculum taught in the Chula Vista Elementary School District is based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English/Language Arts, and Mathematics.  The CCSS have been adopted in 45 states, 3 U.S. territories and the District of Columbia.

The assessment used in the Chula Vista Elementary is the Smarter Balanced Assessment.  This assessment is a computer-adaptive test which will be administered as a field test in 2013-14 and as a full test in 2014-15.  During the 2013-14 year, all students in grades 3 to 8 and 11 will be tested in either English/Language Arts or Mathematics.  Results will not be reported.  Starting in 2014-15, students will take both subjects of the Smarter Balanced Assessment and results will be reported.
